What we actually do
The power button is the one that strands a phone. Volume is an inconvenience; a power button that will not respond means a phone that cannot be woken or restarted.
On most phones it is the same class of part as the side buttons — a switch on a flex — but its position means it takes more punishment and more presses over a phone's life.
If the phone is currently on, leave it on and bring it in. A phone with a dead power button that has been allowed to shut down is a harder start for everyone.
